GREAT FRIENDS MAKE GREAT LIBRARIES

Libraries are more than just book havens; they’re dynamic community centers offering essential services like tax help, voter registration, and homework support. They also provide access to technology for those in need, and programs for children and teens. Join us as a Friend of the Library to ensure these vital programs continue to serve our community.

Endowment vs. Friends

The Lead Library Endowment Fund stands as a dedicated resource to enhance the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Library. Since its inception, this fund has successfully raised close to $150,000 to bolster the library’s future and operations. These vital funds have been generously contributed through various channels, including local community fundraisers and support from public and private donors, extending beyond our immediate area.

In addition, the Friends of the Library serves as an invaluable complement to the Lead Library Endowment Fund, aiming to further advocate for and reinforce the library’s mission. The Friends of the Library derives its financial support from multiple sources, including membership dues, bequests, memorials, and generous donations.

What is the difference?

The Endowment Fund: This plays a crucial role in securing the future of the library. By accumulating a substantial sum, this fund generates ongoing income to bolster various aspects of library operations and facilities. These funds can be used for building improvements and more, providing a safety net for the library’s sustainability.

Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library contribute to the library’s day-to-day operations, supporting programs and events such as homeschooling initiatives, summer reading programs, presentations, and guest speakers. Additionally, small-scale library upgrades can be financed through the Friends’ contributions.

Together, the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Library benefits from the combined support of both the Endowment Fund and the Friends of the Library, ensuring it remains the premier library in our area.
